Back to Fitness at 53

Welcome to my personal experience in shifting some unwanted padding (weight) and getting fit at the same time.

For many of us, there is a trigger that just puts you in the situation of knowing that you need to address the elephant ???? in the room and in my case that elephant was me!

Well, not really but it sounded catchy!????

No, mine was not able to get up waterskiing. I have been an active sportswoman all my life, and now that I have a young family (was labelled a geriatric when I had my children) I would like for them to participate and enjoy sports too – and leading by example is a priority for me.

This last school holiday, the kids were keen for me to ski with them. When I tried, I knew I was heavier than last summer, but what really surprised me was the lack of strength in not only my upper body but my core and legs.

Intervention Required.

The funny thing is, I actually write about amazing weight loss journeys, and encourage women to attend this gym – Go Girl Physique. I write about food plans, amazing transformations – reasons to join and yet I have not taken my own advice on board. Nope I am just sitting on my increasingly large butt thinking this is meant for other people, when in reality I am the target audience. – Go figure!

Now, you know,  I understand how incredibly hard it is to take the first step and actually commit to a weight loss and fitness program. I like to think of myself as quite a confident person, but crossing that threshold with the intention of starting to do something about my weight was not easy.

Asking for help and feeling vulnerable is not a place I like to be – it’s like standing on the edge of a cliff waiting to fall off – I am sure many of you will resonate with this feeling. The absolutely great thing about crossing the threshold of Go Girl Physique – is that the ladies here will catch you!

Getting started –  And Accountability at Go Girl Physique

The last time I was at the gym we were weighed and measured, with the additional torture tool – the callipers. Since these dark days, a new body measuring technique has been added to the Go Girl Physique Tool Box  – The Styku 3D scanner.

It looks harmless enough – but be warned – it does pack a punch!

It is at this stage of the journey, you get to sit down with one of the very experienced and kind trainers at Go Girl Physique. It’s the perfect time to tell your story and why you are here. Mine was – “To weak and too fat to waterski” .

Once we talked about my goals, we started on what I am currently doing (or not) exercise wise and was asked if I had any questions regarding food or drink in take.

Another skeleton  in my closet was about to be exposed !!  I love to have a wine???? each night while cooking tea – there I said it!!!!

And of course the response was – it’s up to you, but if you are serious about shifting the weight then the treat has to go. And I knew it. It would just take longer to lose weight if I continue with the high levels of sugar that is in alcohol.

The 3D Scan

Well, this is exciting ????- I get to see a picture of my whole self – Another reality check!

You get clear instructions on how to use this apparatus. Where to put your feet and how to hold your arms for a more accurate scan.

My Trainer leaves the room to give me privacy while I strip down to my bra and knickers. Once you are standing in your undies, you get on the scanner and the turntable spins you around – slowly to get the image. Once it stopped, the voice told me that the scan is complete and off I get and put my clothes back on.

Once I am ready the trainer knocks on the door to come back in to discuss the results.

The Results

Well I didn’t see a Pamela Anderson Outline. Nope, I saw me – in all of my glory (all of it).

I could see instantly that work needs to be done, and more importantly my health was going to be negatively affected if I didn’t take steps. My trainer indicated where I was at risk health wise, and immediately provided an actionable plan on how we can make this problem go away.

We agreed that I was to attend the successful Warrior Goddess Program to get me motivated and learn the techniques to assist me in my goal of fitness and weight loss.

We also agreed that the alcohol has to be replaced with soda water –  “Oh Yay!”

I will be starting the Warrior Goddess program next week, so check back in next week when I will share with you the Warrior Goddess Program.
